The School of Polish Law

The School of Polish Law has been established at the Faculty of Law at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, in cooperation with and under the patronage of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.

The initiator and founder of the School is the Centre for Promotion of Polish Legal Research of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.

The aim of the School is to promote Polish legal studies, propagate knowledge about Polish law through teaching Polish legal vocabulary and the fundamentals of the Polish legal system, as well as supporting the integration of students and young scholars from Ukraine and Poland through, among others, joint classroom activities, practical classes, participation in international conferences, language workshops and research internships related to studying Polish legal doctrine and Polish legislation.

The School offers a supplementary studies programme, which lasts three semesters and ends with obtaining a diploma.
Studies at the School consist of two parts: one semester involves participation in Polish legal discourse classes, the next two semesters cover classes on particular branches of Polish law.

The School’s attendees have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the basic institutions of Polish law and in particular with the issues of: basic concepts of Polish law, development of historical law in Polish lands, Polish law and European Union law, constitutional and judiciary law, administrative law and proceedings, private (civil) law, family law and inheritance law, intellectual property law, labour law and migration law, commercial law, public economic law, tax law and customs law, criminal law and procedural law (judiciary-administrative, civil, criminal).

For the best graduates of the School, we offer internships at research and business institutions, or at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw (transport and residence included) or in Polish entities operating in Ukraine.

Information about registration and the classes:

  1. Persons eligible for admission at the School speak Polish at the basic level (B1), are interested in studying the Polish legal language and Polish law.
  2. Before being admitted to the substantive part of the classes conducted at the School, it is necessary to complete a language course and pass a language test.
  3. Persons applying for admission to the School should send the following documents by e-mail (to o.radyszewska@wpia.uw.edu.pl), within the announced deadline:
    - cover letter with application for acceptance,
    - resume,
    - documents confirming knowledge of the Polish language at least on the basic level (if any).
  4. The School Board may decide to admit a student on the basis of submitted documents. In the absence of documents confirming knowledge of the Polish language, the candidate is invited to an interview, which is conducted in Polish.
  5. The number of students is not limited. Studies at the School will be conducted provided at least 15 students are admitted. After qualifying for the studies, the Student signs a declaration that they undertake to participate in all School classes and comply with the provisions of this Statute.
  6. Classes on the Polish legal discourse are conducted three times a week by lecturers of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, while classes on Polish law are conducted by instructors of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw in the weekend system, i.e., Friday afternoons (approx. 1.30 p.m. – 6.00 p.m.) and Saturday mornings (approx. 10.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.).
  7. The student is obliged to pass 80% of the total number of courses taught at the School. Every class ends with a written or oral test.
  8. Upon completing studies at the School and passing the appropriate number of subjects, the Student receives a diploma of completion signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Representation of the Centre for Promotion of Polish Legal Research of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw at the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv

In order to implement the provisions of the Agreement on Scientific and Academic Cooperation between the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, concluded on 27 January 2017 in Kyiv, and to strengthen the years-long cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland in the field of education, support and development of the teaching of the Polish language and Polish law, deepening of the mutual relations and cooperation between the peoples of Ukraine and Poland, it was decided to create the Representation of the Centre for Promotion of Polish Legal Research of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw at the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

The purpose of the Representation of the CPPLR at the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is:

  1. dissemination of the achievements of Polish researchers in the field of legal studies,
  2. creation of a platform for cooperation between Polish scientists from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, as well as strengthening existing cooperation and establishing new contacts,
  3. dissemination of the results of scientific research in the area of law and providing knowledge about the latest publications and research currently being conducted at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw,
  4. initiation and coordination of ongoing research staff and student exchange from Poland and Ukraine,
  5. creation of new and expansion of existing fields of cooperation between the Polish and Ukrainian student and graduate communities.

The Representation of the CPPLR at the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv fulfils its goals by:

  1. creation and operation of the School of Polish Law at the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv,
  2. organisation of mutual visiting scholar and visiting professor programmes,
  3. organisation of joint scientific conferences and seminars,
  4. appointing Polish-Ukrainian working groups,
  5. initiation of joint scientific research,
  6. initiation of joint grant applications,
  7. initiation of scientific publications,
  8. organisation of exchange and sharing of library collections.

The coordinator of the Representation of the CPPLR at the Faculty of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is Dr Olesia Radyszewska. The Representation of the CPPLR is located in unit 134 of the Main Building of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, at 60 Volodymyrska St, Kyiv, Ukraine, 01601.
